Clonegal, County Carlow

Clonegal Historic Village. In a setting that might be Switzerland, with a backdrop of tree clad hills, this pretty village is a joy to walk in, explore and discover. As you might expect the good people there are leading Tidy Towns participants and delight in displaying their place as one of Irelands special locations. With a castle - which itself has a history with is both romantic and unusual - restored Weaver's Cottages, abundant wild and bird life centred on its picturesque river, the village is a pure delight to explore. Take time here, as it is not an 'in you face' type of location.

Its polite and gentle people invite rather than press, welcome rather than hassle visitors. The word 'must' does not feature in this soothing and refreshing settlement.
