Restaurants in Carlow, Kilkenny, Tipperary, Waterford and Wexford
South East Ireland has a long coastline that ensures that there is never a shortage of the freshest seafood Ireland has to offer. In addition Carlow, Kilkenny, Tipperary, Waterford and Wexford have a thriving faming industry that provides the finest meats, poultry and game, and freshly picked vegetables to local restaurants. This combination guarantees mouthwatering meus at the first-class restaurants located in the South East of Ireland. Those who wish to enjoy international cuisine can indulge in Chinese, Indian & Italian food. For a lighter option there are cafés and diners serving coffee, cakes, sandwiches and ice-cream. Or for those on the run the many take-aways and shops can instantly satisfy your hunger. Whatever you crave there is something to satisfy all tastes.

The South East is also renowned for its bounty of soft fruits in high summer and the early summer crops of peas, courgettes, asparagus and salad leaves. Rich ripe strawberries take centre stage at special events held in the region each year, most notably the famous Wexford Strawberry Festival in Enniscorthy, Co. Wexford; a county which is also famous for its potatoes! Of course, when in Waterford, don't forget to try the great tasting blaa, a small bread roll unique to this county.

Dunbrody House
Catherine and Kevin Dundon have created something very special at their elegant Georgian Manor. Set in twenty acres of parkland and gardens on the Hook Peninsula, just across the estuary from Waterford City, this was the ancestral home of the Chichester family and the long tradition of hospitality at this tranquil and luxurious retreat is very much alive and well. Spacious bedrooms, fine views over the gardens and Kevin’s outstanding cooking in The Harvest Room make this an exceptional country house.

Hanora's Cottage
Major renovations and extensions were completed at the Wall Family’s large modern guesthouse in the spring of 1999, but Hanora’s still nurtures the spirit of the ancestral home around which it is built. The Walls are caring and hospitable hosts and this plus the luxurious accommodation and good food make Hanora’s a very special place. Overnight guests have the privilege of starting the day with Hanora’s legendary breakfast buffet, which is the Munster and National winner of the Denny Irish Breakfast Award. A completely new restaurant and kitchen emerged from the extension of Hanora’s Cottage and imaginative, well-balanced menus make for some excellent dining.

Top Holiday Destinations of Ireland's South East
The South East of Ireland, comprising the five counties of Carlow, Kilkenny, Tipperary, Waterford and Wexford, is an evocative patchwork of fertile valleys and plains. Down through the centuries the Celts, Vikings, Anglo-Saxons and Normans have passed through these valleys, leaving behind a landscape rich in historical remains. Countless castles, abbeys, fortresses and ancient settlements remain to mark their passage. The five river systems – the Barrow, Blackwater, Nore, Slaney and Suir - criss-cross the South East, meandering under old stone bridges, around magical mountains, through picturesque villages and past neatly thatched cottages before finally entering the sea at scenic, peaceful seaside towns.

The South East has things to do for everyone of all ages and tastes: historic monuments, colourful gardens; well-maintained and sign-posted walking and cycling paths; abundant fishing locations; numerous golf courses, equestrian centres and exciting festivals.
