Angling

Angling in the South East of Ireland with its abundance of clean rivers, lakes and miles of coastline makes for a rewarding and very relaxing holiday. Coarse, Game, Sea and Shore Angling are all available to the angling enthusiast. Situated on the edge of the Atlantic, we enjoy a temperate climate with sufficient rainfall to keep our inland waters fresh and teeming with fish. Five of Irelands most majestic rivers, the River Barrow, the River Nore, the River Suir, Blackwater, and Slaney flow to sea in this region and therefore the opportunities are both varied and interesting with many species of marine fish. One can fish from boat or shore with practically guaranteed rewards when the fish are 'on the take'.
Careysville House & Fishery
Careysville House is an exclusive, fine Georgian Country House providing guests with luxury accommodation in a beautiful setting overlooking the River Blackwater. Residents can fish on one of the best salmon runs in Ireland. The Blackwater has excellent runs of Spring Salmon with Fly and Bait Fishing readily available. The House is late Georgian, built on the site of Ballymacpatrick Castle, overlooking the River Blackwater. It is about 3 miles downstream from Fermoy and situated in scenic, rolling countryside with wonderful views along the Blackwater Valley. Cork is only 25 miles away with excellent shopping facilities and an opera house. Cork Airport takes about 40 minutes by car and has several flights a day to and from London. The accommodation includes a spacious entrance hall, drawing room, dining room and study. On the first floor there are five double bedrooms and one single room. The basement has an excellent drying room and a deep-freeze for guests to store their catch. Guests may bring their own wines. Careysville House is fully staffed and meals are served during the salmon fishing season. At other times Careysville House may be taken on a self-catering basis. Guests that do not want to fish have plenty to see or do in the area. Amongst the highlights are the National Monument at Cashel, golf courses and horse racing at Mallow, Thurles, Clonmel and Tipperary.

Top Holiday Destinations of Ireland's South East
The South East of Ireland, comprising the five counties of Carlow, Kilkenny, Tipperary, Waterford and Wexford, is an evocative patchwork of fertile valleys and plains. Down through the centuries the Celts, Vikings, Anglo-Saxons and Normans have passed through these valleys, leaving behind a landscape rich in historical remains. Countless castles, abbeys, fortresses and ancient settlements remain to mark their passage. The five river systems – the Barrow, Blackwater, Nore, Slaney and Suir - criss-cross the South East, meandering under old stone bridges, around magical mountains, through picturesque villages and past neatly thatched cottages before finally entering the sea at scenic, peaceful seaside towns.

The South East has things to do for everyone of all ages and tastes: historic monuments, colourful gardens; well-maintained and sign-posted walking and cycling paths; abundant fishing locations; numerous golf courses, equestrian centres and exciting festivals.
