Wexford Wildfowl Reserve
Wexford Harbour and its Slobs are natural havens for birds. Located on the south-east coast of Ireland, they are the closest point for birds migrating into or out of Ireland from Britain and the Continent from a southerly direction. Waders and wildfowl in particular are attracted to the area where the flat landscape and the wide shallow harbour with its sandbars and mud banks provide safe areas to feed, loaf, roost and breed. From early October through to the middle of April, the North and South Slobs and the Harbour are home to thousands of ducks, geese, swans and waders making this a site of major international importance for wildfowl and waders. In addition, during spring and autumn, large numbers of birds on migration stop to feed in these rich areas. It's a short drive to the stunning Raven Nature Reserve - a beautiful place for a walk or cycle through mature pine forest growing on old sand dunes parallel to the sea. The Reserve is owned in partnership with BirdWatch Ireland, a national voluntary organisation and managed by the National Parks and Wildlife Service.

Whitford House Hotel
The Whitty family’s smartly presented 4* hotel is conveniently located on the edge of Wexford Town, close to the bypass - popular with locals for its ease of access and plentiful parking, there’s always a buzz. Notable for a general air of care, good maintenance and cleanliness, also staff who are outstandingly friendly and helpful, it’s probably the busiest hotel in the area and could make a useful journey break for travellers in need of a cup of coffee who don’t want the hassle of going into the town. It’s a pleasant place to stay and several grades of room are offered, ranging from standard to ‘superior deluxe’ – the best have balconies or private patio areas, king size beds and in-room safes, but all have good facilities including iron and ironingboard as well as the usual phone, TV, tea/coffee making and hair dryer. The facilities generally are good, making this a handy venue for local business people to hold meetings and small conferences – there are four meeting rooms of varying sizes, seating up to 40 delegates – and, while the swimming pool and spa (with steam room, sauna, jacuzzi and treatment rooms) attract a wide clientele, good facilities for children including a children's pool, playground, football area, and ‘mad movie mornings’ in the residents’ TV room, make it an appealing destination for family breaks.
