Kilgraney Country House
Halfway between Carlow and Kilkenny, Bryan Leech and Martin Marley’s charming late Georgian house is in a lovely site overlooking the Barrow Valley. Set in extensive wooded grounds that feature amongst many other delights – a croquet lawn, fine cut-stone outbuildings (currently under renovation), and the kitchen garden that provides much that Bryan and Martin will transform into delicious dinners – in a contemporary style that also makes good use of other local and artisan produce. But it is for the sheer sense of style pervading the house that it most famous – the enjoyment that Bryan and Martin have derived from their dedication to its restoration and furnishing is abundantly clear; elegant, yes, but with a great sense of fun too. Dinner is normally served at a communal table; private dining on request. Self- catering accommodation is also available, in two courtyard suites and the gate lodge.

Killane Castle
Kathleen and Jack Mernagh's magical farm B&B is the perfect place for stressed townies, especially with children in tow - a real castle, a 17th century house to stay in, and lots to do. The past and present mix effortlessly in Killiane Castle: the farmhouse and Towerhouse are 17th century and some of the 13th century Norman Castle still stands. Inside there's a spacious entrance hall, an elegant, comfortably furnished residents' sitting-room with an open fire, and there's a small room down a few steps used as a TV room. Climb up the 17th century staircase to the second and third floors, where individually-designed bedrooms have comfortable beds, en-suite facilities and great views over the countryside. There's a driving range, croquet, tennis court, lots of garden furniture (for all times of day and wind direction), very comfortable accommodation and plenty to read in both the sitting room and bedrooms (history of castle, area, books and magazines). This friendly family always have plans for further improvements and they are hoping to repair the castle, with a view to restoration in time. The working farm allows visitors to see a modern dairy in action and their own hens supply the eggs for the delicious breakfasts that Kathleen Mernagh serves here in a warm, cosy dining-room, buffet-style. No dinners are offered but the restaurants of Wexford are very close, or Kathleen will advise guests on the best local choices. Killiane is just a few miles from Wexford town so it's ideal for an overnight on the way to or from Rosslare Harbour (about 10 minutes)
